Camosun Business Students Shine in California

The Camosun Chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi (DEC) competed in the 48th annual International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California April 22nd through the 25th. The chapter sent nine members to compete in a combination of individual and team events and brought home four awards. Christopher Paine and Jonathan Gehrts were awarded first place for their performance in the prestigious Financial Statement Analysis Competition. In the Entrepreneurship Event, John Sargent was called to the stage as a finalist for his business plan to start a local pizza chain which markets customizable pizzas prepared in under three minutes. Additionally, Heather Lane and Christopher Paine were recognized with National Honor Awards for their high scholastic achievement and participation in Delta Epsilon Chi Activities.

More than 1600 students, advisers and judges attended the Anaheim Conference, representing chapters from across the US and Canada. Students had an opportunity to compete in one of 20 events that are classified as a case study, or business simulation, or prepared business presentation. Events are tied to one of the following areas of study: Management, Marketing and Sales, Accounting and Finance, Hospitality, Design, Travel and Tourism, Business Law and Ethics, Food Service, and Entrepreneurship.

DEC Camosun is a business club which strives to prepare its members for a variety of local and international business related competitions. The club also looks for ways in which they can give back to their college and local communities through promoting and contributing to charitable initiatives like the student food bank, Choices Adoption and Counseling Services, and the Queen Alexandra Foundation for Children.

The Club hosted a number of fund raising events throughout the year which helped them raise money to cover some of their travel and registration fees. The club is extremely grateful for the generous support received from local businesses that contributed to this effort.
